Why volunteer with us?

Our volunteers are the backbone of everything we do. From a 20-minute weekly phone call to driving members to their medical appointments — every hour you give has a direct, visible impact on someone's life in our community.

We match you to a role that fits your life. No experience necessary — just a bit of time and a willingness to show up.

Current volunteer roles

Five ways to get involved — pick what fits your life.

Day centre helper

4 hrs/week

Help run our weekly day centre — serving meals, joining in activities, and making sure everyone feels welcome.

Befriending caller

20 mins/week

A regular friendly phone call to an older person who may otherwise have little social contact. One of the most impactful things you can do.

Driver

Flexible

Drive members to medical appointments, the day centre, or local activities. Full UK licence required. Mileage expenses covered.

Event volunteer

Ad hoc

Help at seasonal events, fundraisers, and community days throughout the year. Great if you want flexibility with no regular commitment.

Trustee

~6 hrs/month

Join our board of trustees to help govern the charity, provide strategic direction, and ensure we stay on mission. Skills in finance, legal, or HR particularly welcome.

Questions about volunteering

Do I need any experience?

Not at all. Most of our volunteers have no prior experience working with older people. We provide all the training and support you need.

How much time do I need to commit?

It depends on the role — from 20 minutes a week for a befriending call to a few hours for day centre support. We work around your availability, not the other way around.

Will I need a DBS check?

Yes, some roles require a DBS check. We cover the cost and handle the process for you — it usually takes around two weeks.

Are expenses covered?

Yes. We cover reasonable out-of-pocket expenses including mileage for drivers. We'll give you the details when we have our initial chat.

What if it's not for me?

No problem at all. There's no obligation after your initial chat. If you start and find it's not the right fit, just let your coordinator know — we appreciate your honesty.
